Personal Notes
"Toward the end of my studies in Belgrade in 1968, in my own despair regarding the painting trends offered at the time, there was no greater irony or absurdity than creating a lush, grand tree crown. And yes, I created something that would deeply excite me artistically, though it might confuse others. It was a radical return to painting that reflects sensibility, emotionality, nature, and ultimately, a form of art that revives my memories of the linden trees in Sarajevo's Alifakovac, whose 'belly' forms my Toledo, my Bentbaša. Looking up at the tree crowns is something that evokes tranquility, strength, constant change. The beauty of them isn't just in their appearance but also in the feelings they awaken: peace, but at the same time, restlessness, a connection to nature, and a quiet gratitude for the perfect creation of the Almighty", Safet Zec.
